Poll: Would You Subscribe To A World of Warcraft Classic Only Plan?

The World of Warcraft Midnight launch date of March 2 is fast approaching and tomorrow, January 29, we will watch The State of Azeroth and learn what other adventures await us in 2026. With so many new things happening, it is what’s old that has drawn my focus.

While I enjoy crafting House Decor for the new player housing feature, most of my time is spent leveling in The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Edition (By the way, Blizzard needs to do something about these long titles). I am just having so much fun and I am far from the only one.

Every zone, hub, and town I visited in TBC Classic Anniversary was bustling with player activity. There were quest areas in the Ghostlands that were not this busy when Burning Crusade first launched. Players were forming pick-up groups for quests and waiting in line to kill spawning mobs. It was glorious.

It was this level of engagement and the love of the early game that made me think, “What if Blizzard offered a Classic Only subscription? Would some players drop Retail for it?”

The Adventure and The Cost

World of Warcraft is a subscription MMO with costs ranging from $12.99 to $14.99 (USD) depending on your billing period. A subscription includes all content, Retail and Classic.

World of Warcraft subscription tiers

Subscribers to a Classic Only plan lose access to the latest World of Warcraft content and future Remix editions, but it can be argued Classic delivers more variety and challenges in its offerings:

  • World of Warcraft Classic (including Classic and Hardcore realms)
  • Mists of Pandaria Classic (and future releases)
  • The Burning Crusade Anniversary Edition (and future releases)
  • Classic + (if announced) or Seasons of Discovery realms

I do not know how much it is to launch and maintain the Classic editions but a Classic Only plan would be expected to cost less than a full subscription. Assuming the plan follows the same tier system, let’s suppose $9.99 to $11.99 (USD).

  1. I’d just never play retail again and Blizzard would get less of my money. But why would they do that.? Unless they think enough people would pay for both and they could charge more. But that’s pretty silly.
