“That’s the old passage to Ravenholm. We don’t go there anymore.”
If you played the incredible classic Half-Life 2 (and if not, why not?), you may recognize this ominous statement from when Gordan Freeman made his way to the old mining town.

Likewise, if you played Vanilla World of Warcraft and hung around the forums, you may remember posting “We don’t go to Ravenholdt” whenever a player asked what was the purpose of the lovely chateau set in the heights of the Hillsbrad Foothills.
Welcome to Ravenholdt
When I consider the World of Warcraft: Forever focus on unfinished locations, I think of Ravenholdt. This has to be the most legendary of incomplete areas to be addressed in Forever.
The path to Ravenholdt begins east of Tarren Mills, across the river. There are a couple of mid-20s bears and spiders and then it’s up the weaving path into the hills and through a tunnel. The guards are neutral to Horde and Alliance.

Ravenholdt is home to the Assassin’s League, an organization of rogues and thieves. The Ravenholdt reputation grind involves killing members of the Syndicate and, at higher ranks, turning in Junkboxes. Reaching Exalted is a requirement for the “Insane in the Membrane” achievement.
That’s it.
No quest lines. No reputation rewards. No real purpose behind having it in the game, other than as an interesting place to visit. I believe Forever will finally make Ravenholdt a destination for players of all classes and both factions.

Something Lies Hidden
Blizzard confirmed they kept some secrets hidden during the beta, to maintain the surprise of discovery once Forever goes live. Ravenholdt may be a perfect example of this strategy at work.
During beta, I took my Horde character to Ravenholdt, hoping to find some kind of update, either in appearance or content. Instead, I found nothing different from the World of Warcraft version. Well, almost nothing.
The NPC, Myrokos Silentform, was the only noticeable alteration. Myrokos was a high elf in World of Warcraft, but transitioned to a blood elf in The Burning Crusade. In the Forever beta he sported his Burning Crusade appearance instead of the original high elf.
A blood elf cover makes sense graphically if Blizzard is changing him to a Skyborne, since it is basically the same model. Skybourne can be rogues, so it fits the lore, although I find the idea of a Skybourne ascending the Assassin’s League ranks so soon after their arrival on Azeroth a bit of a stretch.

Whether or not Myrokos will be a Skybourne, the fact that his model is the only thing different in the whole area makes me think Blizzard was shielding a new version with the TBC Classic visual.
We Will Know Very Very Soon
I wish I had more to share, but as stated, there isn’t much currently to Ravenholdt.
I am excited to learn about its new purpose and reputation. I would enjoy pursuing shadowy missions across Azeroth while working towards badass rewards. I mean, it’s an organization of assassins. They have to have cool rewards especially at Exalted, right?
This said, I am in no rush to fly through content to find out. My plan is to explore every corner and complete every quest, until the time comes to pass once more through that tunnel.
After all, I have Forever.
