When I posted my previous article on Horde owl taming in World of Warcraft: Forever, I did so in the context of reviewing the original Vanilla route. However, if I had completed a few more quests on my Alliance beta character, I would have discovered two important Forever updates; Horde owl taming will be easier and faster, and, this includes Horde players on PVP and Hardcore rulesets.
Welcome, Jai’vhanel
Let’s cut to the chase, World of Warcraft: Forever adds owls to Darkshore.
A new Alliance quest in Auberdine called “WANTED: Jai’vhanel” sends you south to a small population of owls named Child of Jai’vhanel. Among them is Jai’vhanel, an aggressive level 12 black owl – very sharp looking. The Alliance quest is to kill Jai’vhanel and return with its feather.
This new Forever content benefits Horde hunters of all rulesets by positioning an owl population within easy reach of Ashenvale, away from certain death from Alliance Sentinels, higher level mobs, and drowning.
The New Path
Just like before, travel the road from Ashenvale into Darkshore, but instead of going north to Auberdine, turn right at the ruins of Ameth’ Aran.

A helpful road sign even points the way. Ameth’ Aran is populated with level 10-12 undead, but no worries. You are not entering the ruins. The spot you want is along the mountains just north of the ruins. There are level 12 bears in the area.

The Child of Jai’vhanel are neutral level 10-12 beasts. At these levels, they tame with the new pet ability Mine! and are able to learn Growl Rank 2.
Neither Jai’vhanel nor Child of Jai’vhanel tame with Claw Rank 2, like the level 10 Strigid Hunter owls on Teldrassil. However, you can learn Claw Rank 2 beforehand from the level 9-10 Venomtail Scorpid and Encrusted Surf Crawlers in Durator.

I tamed Jai’vhanel because it is level 12 and the only black owl on Azeroth. I love a special pet appearance.

Just like before, once you tame your owl, you can kill local mobs or hearth back home and show off your new guided missile.
