A World of Warcraft Housing Layout Primer

December 2, 2025 is a big day in World of Warcraft history. Not only is it the release date of The World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion prologue, The Warning; preparing players for the ultimate battle between the Light and Void, it is the early access date to World of Warcraft housing for players who purchased any edition of the Midnight expansion.

I posted my thoughts on WoW housing. Having had a chance to experience it on beta, I found it helpful to have a basic layout plan to start with. This bit of structure allowed me to focus and achieve more with my time and room limit. If you like building from a foundation, here are some ideas to consider.

There’s No Place Like Home

It has been over forty years since I stepped foot into my childhood home, but I can still walk the halls and rooms with my eyes closed. The floorplan from my youth will be my first floor layout. Since we cannot add basements (Yet! I believe it will happen), I will add a hidden staircase to the next level in its place.

…Except For Fiction

The Simpsons. Golden Girls. Friends…etc. There are a plethora of floor plans online for you to add Azeroth style to pop culture homes. Go beyond the television to the big screen and recreate Meduseld from The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers, or other locations from favorite shows, movies, and games

Play Dungeons & Dragons and have a favorite haunt? Build it. I still have the hand-drawn floor plans for a collapsible fortress my D&D party looted in 1982. This will nicely occupy three levels of my house, once I have the rooms; there are lots of them.

When The Real and Fictitious Meet

I was going to include Downton Abbey in the previous section, but while the show is fiction, the house is real. The complete floor plans of Highclere Castle are available here to fire up your creative furnace.

Historic manors and medieval castles provide more than layout ideas. There are rooms and spaces not typically found in modern residential homes. I was not planning on a Secretary’s Room in my house, but seeing it made me think of adding such specialized spaces for particular alts; as if they held the roles in the warband.

It is building on the fantasy as well as the house.

It’s All About Having Fun
