Farming Globs of Wax With Steady Flight In World of Warcraft The War Within

Skyriding was a game changer when it was introduced in World of Warcraft Dragonflight as Dragonriding. The new skill propelled players at speeds exceeding 700% and incorporated acceleration and gravity’s pull for a more immersive experience.

I believe one new activity benefits from downshifting to the old school flying style, now titled Steady Flight, and that activity is farming Odd Globs of Wax in The War Within.

Skyriding allows players to zoom across the map with bursts of speed

Disturbing the Earth

Odd Globs of Wax are an interesting item found on and beneath the mysterious island of Khaz Algar. Looted from patches of Disturbed Earth, they are distinguishable from undisturbed earth by their soft purple glow. Interacting with Disturbed Earth results in appearance of a little dirt pile, attack by a hostile creature, or some simple challenge. Loot includes random trash, perhaps a Valorstone, and, 1-5 Odd Globs of Wax.

Disturbed Earth is recognizable from it's glowing purple outline

The Odd Globs of Wax are the prize. Turning in 5 Odd Globs of Wax to Middles in Gundaraz rewards an experience boost while leveling. Considering the many avenues of progression in the game, hold on to them until max level. There’s no limit to how many Odd Globs of Wax you can hold and turning in 5 at level 80 rewards 5 Valorstones.

MIddles is the NPC to whom you turn in Odd Globs of Wax for experience, or better yet, Valorstones

When The War Within launched, the reward was 10 Valorstones but Blizzard hotfixed it to an even exchange. There is no limit on Glob holding capacity, making it a great way to bank stones especially while leveling.

Eyes In The Sky

Skyriding lets you zoom across the map, and while it is easy to spot glowing Disturbed Earth, it is just as easy to zip past them. Ground cover is certainly a contributing factor. The purple patches stand out on the Isle of Dorn and The Ringing Deeps but the ground cover in Hallowfall and Azj-Kahet provide effective camouflage.

Enabling Steady Flight allows you to effortlessly hover and spot Disturbed Earth you might have missed with Skyriding

Steady Flight’s efficiency in these searches stems from its point-to-point maneuverability. Steady Flight lets you sit at altitude, move up/down/side to side, and scan the surroundings to spot every patch. Flying without physics also makes navigating cliffs, groves of trees, and isolated surfaces easier.

I was thrilled when Dragonriding launched in World of Warcraft Dragonflight and Blizzard adopted flying into zone design. However, Steady Flight can be more effective and less stressful when conducting aerial reconnaissance for Disturbed Earth. This demonstrated to me sometimes the old way of doing something is more beneficial towards accomplishing a new task.

Give it a try and let me know if it makes a difference for you.
